Big Stupid is more the culprit, Fats. Our right wing has been spreading fear and lies(perhaps at the behest of big pharma, or a host of other medical profit centers) for decades. It goes back to when Hillary Clinton tried to get Congress to embrace single payer, and has continued to the present stupid reality.
