fun in Fenway

Post by callmeslick »

....look out, my Sox are loading for bear next season. Not a bad infield if they all stay healthy:
Sandoval, Ramirez, Pedroia will be tough to get past, and should be a good hitting infield. Sandoval just has the build to end his career after some more third base as the Big Papi replacement.

This place just looks SO comparatively stale as to stand out. As Res described in a reply to me weeks back about a certain football game, it's embarrassing. Really.

Spending all the money on 2 or 3 guys = no depth on the bench. Did they learn nothing from Detroit, Texas and the Yankees this year?
A couple of injuries and the BoSox will be out of it.

And where are they planning to put Ramirez? Are they going to trade their hot new prospect Bogaerts? I doubt it!
And I hear the BoSox may make a play for Jon Lester!

Seriously Slick, if 6 or 7 of your guys are 70% of your salary cap ... you're not going to the playoffs.

as a non-Sox fan, you can be forgiven for not knowing that the AAA and AA franchises are both loaded with talent, and
won their respective leagues this season. The only shortage is of major-league grade starting pitching, which is where
these acquisitions come in.

you are starting to put it together......Bogaerts will be traded for a starter, Lester will come back as a free agent, which
was the plan all along when they gave him a shot at playoff ball.

oh, they'll field their squad at well over cap, and pay the price, because filling Fenway every night pays for it,
along with the huge TV revenues they already have at hand. Now, does this get to be a bit Evil Empire-like? Sure,
but what I envision is this expensive core, assisted at many places by top prospects from AAA, so depth might not prove
at all to be an issue.
