I enjoyed the read....kinda comical. The comments attached were great.

Nic, if anything.....is true...not sayin' that ain't true....it's the exact opposite.
With car and body camera's.....it's hard for them to take a shit on duty...let alone...whip/shoot someone's ass.

What one cop used to do.....it now takes four or five of them....cuz, everybody is really busy...cover'n their ass and
nobody wants the blame, responsibility and the ensuing complaints. I predict a donut and coffee shortage...soon.

I remind...that if'n ya wanna know what happens in the "real world"?
Google New Orleans and Katrina...the cops who "disappeared" are still gone. The one's who stayed?
A bunch of them went to jail. Not hard to guess...on the next disaster...where the cops are gonna go...

I'd suggest Snug Harbor, and then over to Port O Call for a burger. 8-) Serious, NOLA cops are/were a fecked-up mess. It might be tempting to think that the population there should rise up and fight back....HOWEVER, having spoken(at bars, admittedly) with cops from that city, they weren't exactly getting a sweet deal, either. I recall, at least 20 years back, that when hired, they had to purchase, at no small expense, every component of their uniforms. They were, at that time, starting at about the same pay grade as Park Guides. With this sort of compensation, one can almost understand how they got to corruption. Now, nothing explains brutality towards the citizens, and that is a different matter. Once again, I try to make allowances for a lot of pressure/stress on a cop just doing his/her daily job.

:) Yer sympathy is appreciated.

However....the reality is what I wrote.
There exists no excuse for corruption and brutality.
What everyone is faced with...in a large metropolitan area...is the same.
When..you have a "breakdown" of the magnitude of N.O. ?
The precedent has been set and adjudicated?

Old Pudfark sez: " When the going gets tough? The tough are gonna haul ass..............again. "

Note: The police are generally considered to be "para-military" in their training and rank and disciplinary structure.
Compared to the military? Well, there's penalties, to include death, in the military....for desertion. Not so, with the police.

I worked in Hurricane Alicia in the early 80's.....in Houston. I worked for 26 hours straight...I observed hundreds of folks looting
stores in three and four feet of flood waters....stealing T.V.s and all sorts of stuff....laughed my ass off. Didn't arrest nobody.
Why? My vehicle was parked on the "high ground" in about two feet of water....and I had no where to take the arrested and no way to do it. I was armed with my trusty 1911 and an AR-15...lots of ammo. Never fired a shot and never wanted too. I nearly burned out my P.A. system (bullhorn on light rack) laughing at the idiots thieving..some of them damn near drowned with their haul.... Where were they taking their loot? Well, of course.....back their "flooded" homes...most of which were 4-6 feet deep in water. Thirty something years later, now? I wouldn't do anything differently. :)

I suspect that is what most NOLA cops did, too.........any cops in your case that didn't follow your path?

All of the cops in Houston, to my knowledge, that could make it in to work, did.
Most Houston cops....don't live in Houston. At that time, I did.
My POV was a Ford 4 wheel drive truck...lifted approx 3"....I went to work 6 hours early,
so that I could be there...streets were flooding then. It only got worse. When I was finally able
to return to my station....26 hours later? The PD wanted to "borrow" my truck for relief purposes?
I said to them...I've not heard from my wife and daughter since before the storm. All telephone lines and power were not working. If, I let you use my truck? How, am I supposed to go home? They couldn't/wouldn't answer that. I went home in 3-4 feet of water..to find it flooded and a large tree that fell on it. My family was scared, but safe. We had no choice but to live in our flooded home....for the next two weeks....with no power or phone. I went to work...everyday 7 days a week during that time period.....every shift was a minimum of 12-16 hours....vehicle availability permitting. We rode 3 or more officers per vehicle. So........that's how I know...what cops, now, will do....and what they won't do.
It's far worse........now. BTW, as of three weeks ago...I've been "Honorably" retired....fer 10 years.
