no one in my family goes to private school(until college). It has been a core principle of ours. And, thus, we work like mad to make sure we have top notch public schools where we live. That is what is needed....public vigilance. I can vouch for the fact it works. My education and my daughter's, were top notch. And, my dad came out of a little rural school in a little Virginia town that managed to produce two doctors, a lawyer, an airline pilot and a chemical executive from the same class of 14 graduates.
Bottom line is this: Public school systems are a reflection of public involvement. Nothing more, nothing less. There is NOTHING inherently wrong in public ed, nor is there some problem with the concept beyond what the parents of the students bring to the equation.
