actually, Pud, how was I wrong? I stated I like the show(can't debate that, can we?), and that the brouhaha was a result of overexposure and celebrity(not, if you note, a word about politics). As Res noted, it's all about money, and I smell a manufactured crisis by A and E to keep the momentum up. I still feel they have been overdone, bless their hearts, and that A and E might well take a bath on the current extension of the contract. As for the idiotic comment made about the ratings, two points: First, the Christmas special aired before the controversy got underway. Second, my reference was to the weekly marathon of DD episodes, which run WEEKLY, and can easily be compared. The viewership of those has been down, significantly, for the past two weeks. As I said, that may be more due to holiday distractions, but it WILL be interesting to see the viewership of the new season.

"Pud, how was I wrong?"

Here are some of Slick's recent statements quoted from ACWOS:

"And then, they paid the price: Phil becomes an interview magnet, and eventually spouts the same Fundamentalist bullshit about gay people being sinners just like murderers and ADIOS! Phil's gone from the show, about 2 million people are threatening to boycott A and E sponsors(in 48 hours, that number will easily quadruple), and a perfectly good, simple TV show is fecked from here on in. Too bad, but they overdid it and with fame comes a life under the microscope."

"Trust me, it's a no-win either way for A and E........lots of gay viewers for a lot of other shows, with huge financial clout(likely more than the DD fan base)."

"Phil and the family willingly exposed themselves to public scrutiny for the almighty buck(there IS a Christian moral lesson there, as well)."

" If some of those viewers, like myself, are not exactly sympathetic to Phil's definition of 'Christian', A and E likely made the best call possible. Now, that said, after signing that show for a 5 year extension(a HUGE mistake, and like I say, I'm a fan....enough is enough) and putting so much stock into the one franchise, A and E is sort of screwed no matter WHICH way they go."

"'they aren't for sale' MY ASS. They've sold their very family soul for money."

"the backlash has yet to hit full steam as the media hasn't touched on Phil's observations about how happy, happy, happy black folks were before the Civil Rights Act."

"funny, the core story in the thread is about a man, and his family, who sold their collective souls for the almighty buck, and you ramble on about liberals lacking principle. Hilarious. "

"The difference here, and I tried to lay this out at the outset, is that the Robertsons sort of sold their collective souls to Disney Corporation(A and E parent) for MONEY and FAME."

" In a way, it seems to me that what is happening around Phil is a sort of Christian version of Karma coming back to bite his ass."

Everyone of the quoted statements above belongs to you (Slick).
It seems you have a short and convenient memory...as usual.

Seems only fair, to quote myself:
"Phil Robertson's whole life and family....has the appearance of being built on "sheer perseverance" to include this recently manufactured "liberal" induced debacle....that backfired, big time.

You "lib" folks oughta be damn scared. It's likely, I hope so, a notable change in momentum on the "conservative" side. Everybody now knows? You "libs" are beatable. You should know it too.

Who'd a "thunk"....old Phil....could rally a nation, so quickly?
It surprised me. 8-) "

So Yes, Slick...you're more than wrong....as usual.

I'll stand by every comment quoted, and still don't see where I'm 'wrong' in my opinions.

yup, true. The show is essentially fecked from here on in.
"Trust me, it's a no-win either way for A and E........lots of gay viewers for a lot of other shows, with huge financial clout(likely more than the DD fan base)."
true again, according to all reports.
"Phil and the family willingly exposed themselves to public scrutiny for the almighty buck(there IS a Christian moral lesson there, as well)."
very true, and I suspect Phil knows it, in his heart.
" If some of those viewers, like myself, are not exactly sympathetic to Phil's definition of 'Christian', A and E likely made the best call possible. Now, that said, after signing that show for a 5 year extension(a HUGE mistake, and like I say, I'm a fan....enough is enough) and putting so much stock into the one franchise, A and E is sort of screwed no matter WHICH way they go."
completely true.
"'they aren't for sale' MY ASS. They've sold their very family soul for money."
completely true again.
"the backlash has yet to hit full steam as the media hasn't touched on Phil's observations about how happy, happy, happy black folks were before the Civil Rights Act."
will have to wait to judge this one.
"funny, the core story in the thread is about a man, and his family, who sold their collective souls for the almighty buck, and you ramble on about liberals lacking principle. Hilarious. "
very true, you assclowns make my day with your unintended humor.
"The difference here, and I tried to lay this out at the outset, is that the Robertsons sort of sold their collective souls to Disney Corporation(A and E parent) for MONEY and FAME."
seriously? You question this?
" In a way, it seems to me that what is happening around Phil is a sort of Christian version of Karma coming back to bite his ass."
yup

Despite the feeble attempt at spin, I'm glad ya agree with me. :)

The "black" racist thingy...has evaporated with Jesse's lame, late attempt to "stir" the pot.
Everybody dissed him, to include, Disney, A&E, the Robertsons, yer Democrats, GLAAD and the media.

In summary, much like them (Jesse & GLAAD), you jumped the bandwagon prematurely, missed it and "ended" up in the mud.

no one on this computer did anything except express my concern that my fears from back in September had come true. The show and cast were overexposed, and subject to intense scrutiny which they'd previously been able to avoid.
