the wife and I headed down a few miles to Delaware Park this afternoon. Won a few, lost a few at the casino, then ventured trackside for the feature races at the track itself. Held my own there, the wife had a beer and a sandwich, overall slow, but all good. We get to the feature for the afternoon, a grade III for 3yo fillies. One of the 7 entries is the winner of two straight grade I events, including a million dollar race(the Kentucky Oaks). She goes off on the board at 1-9, likely bet heavier than that. Wife, who bets roughly once per year, puts down two 10 buck show wagers. I put a 20 show on another horse. We get back to the seats, about 1 minute before post, and I look out at the pool totals. Show pool, which was at around $30,000, is now approaching $200,000, with $180,000 on the favorite. Favorite finishes last(not sure why yet), my horse third, the wifes two finish 1-2. Show payoffs for $2 wagers: 79.20, 26.60, 58.80. We cash out a grand, and headed off to a fine prime rib supper.
