This bit here shows how little you understand the issues with immigration in France.

Originally people from north africa came to work in france a few years, send money back and then moved back. The bulk of the immigration happened way after the 50s and 60s, after there was double digit unemployment rates, because of the "loi de regroupement familial" which was voted IIRC around 74, when there was absolutely no need for foreign workers anymore. But even then never did as many migrants come in france as under sarkozy only a few years back, and nowadays... french people don't vote right so they need to add more migrants. Oh and they're trying to give the right to vote to foreigners who live in France now.

what is wrong with any residents voting, Nic? In the US, any resident could vote here until around 1910, whether they were a citizen or not. It worked well.

Yup, looking back at yer described "good old days"....the time when some folks had a "vacum cleaner" named "Tyrone" and he wasn't allowed to vote...though, he was allowed to "reside". Then later on...he was allowed to pay a "poll tax". Then after that, he was allowed to sell his vote in exchange fer "freebies" promised by the Democrats. So, ya advocate...going "full circle"?
