Ok, here is the text as I remember and with a little copy and paste.

#1 I am the Lord your God (show me)
a, You shall have no other gods before me (obviously a moot point for an Athiest)
b, You shall not make for yourself an idol (again obviously a moot point for an Athiest)

#2 Do not take the name of the Lord in vain (not a bad idea as the rollers get upset)

#3 Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy (another one to skip)

#4 Honor your father and mother (good idea, but I know more than one parent that deserves no respect)

#5 You shall not kill/murder (this one will keep you out of jail)

#6 You shall not commit adultery (I have banged to many married and non married women to worry about this one)

#7 You shall not steal (see commandment #5)

#8 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor (This one will avoid jail and getting shot)

#9 You shall not covet your neighbor's wife (I'm doomed!)

#10 You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor (I'll just take his wife or daughter)

the copy and paste part are the ten commandments, the remember part is in quotations :P

to answer DH's question about where do we get our morals and basing it on HH's response, HH has no morals and the only thing that keeps him inline is his fear of prison or getting shot. you seem to be such a man of Character there HH
its funny with atheisests they always ask for proof ok god, how aboot you guys prove he isnt aboot
I tried that approach Fat, the only response I got was a Fau ignore from him and that was AFTER he stated that he could prove the non-existence of God with science. I guess he couldn't prove it so it became easier to pretend to have me on Ignore than be man enough to admit he was wrong

I said he can blow me and yet no lightning bolt struck me.

If that's no proof then I don't know what is.

I'm an atheist and to my best recollection I have never asked anyone to prove the existence of God. That would be silly. You can't prove the unprovable. At this point in time you couldn't prove the existence of God any more than you could prove that he doesn't exist. It's just that there is a mountain of evidence pointing to the conclusion that God does not exist. And the major basis for evidence that he does exist is a couple of books written thousands of years ago.
You can't prove anything either way. And to try to is futile. But we atheists certainly have reasonable doubt on our side.
The "I'm right, you're wrong" theme of this thread is hilarious in the extreme. You guys don't seem to understand that none of you are right and none of you are wrong.
I've also got some news for you folks, atheism is also a faith!
You believe in God....that's your faith.
I don't believe in God....that's my faith.
To think that faith is exclusive to religion or to the belief in God is tunnel visioned and shallow.

As far as the 10 commandments go.....yeah, they sound pretty good.
But personally I would rename them the 10 guidelines.
Because, let's face it, God has broken just about all of his own commandments. ;)

BS. Not believing in god is no faith.

well said Res, about the only thing I would disagree with you on is the "mountains of evidence" part, but every thing else is pretty good analogy

sure, I do. They are redundant(George Carlin once pointed that out, I believe) and make the assumption that there is a God.

Two of the current definitions of the word "faith" from Merriam-Webster dictionary are...

1) "firm belief in something for which there is no proof"
2) "something that is believed especially with strong conviction"

Sometimes a single word has many connotations.

Open your eyes, Nic.

Can't prove that something that is only believed to exist actually doesn't. It only exists because of some dumbasses believe in it. So there is no possible way to disprove its existence. If it was possible then people wouldn't believe in it, they would just know it.

Both your definitions contain the word belief. If you don't believe, then there's no faith. Period

Holy fucking condescending tone batman!

It's not because you are claiming the middle ground that you're right.

As a matter of fact the truth is never in the middle. Someone is right and someone is wrong, or most of the time everybody's wrong, but if you think everyone has a point then you are 100% wrong and gay.
