correct, with the clear exception of a civil war, which is what was implied. You surely don't think the government is going to sit idly by whilst a bunch of yahoos(be they right-wing, left-wing, whatever) goes gunning for fellow citizens or elected officials?
and I find it humorous and naive on your part, that you hope/think that somebody would do something for you, that you would not do for them....have another lollipop, Slick.
speaking of lollipops, if you think your way gets this nation to move forward, you're the sucker.
Here's a quickie for ya Slick....there ain't gonna be a civil war...you folks ain't armed...you folks don't fight...

go find yourself some real hardcore leftwing sites on the Net. You are not only wrong, you are badly wrong. Hell, I've read more militaristic threats that I take seriously on the far-left sites than on the far-right. Further, those folks tend to be younger, far better educated, technically speaking, and more desperate(if that's possible). Seriously, don't make the above assumption when thinking about the nation's future. Nothing could be more incorrect.

single shot long guns and handguns, but you DO realize that your government/military possesses shit most of us couldn't even speculate about? Those days passed into the rear-view mirror in the 20th century sometime.
I know this thought hasn't crossed your mind, but yes, I am very well aware of most of what the government has to offer. I'm also very well aware of the fact that there is a VERY large number of men and women out here that are still up to date on the uses of such items that are no longer affiliated with government other than to pay taxes.
I also doubt that you have any idea in your sheltered mind just what is out there in private hands that is as good and sometimes even better than what is available to our troops from our lovely low-bid supply system. Check with some of your supposed old "goodfella" wannabe buddies if you doubt.
I'm 58 years old. M-16's, M-60's, and M-2's haven't changed much at all since I played with them. My antique M-1 will go places an M-16 can only dream of going, like through an engine block, a concrete wall, or into a man sized target at a thousand yards. Full auto is impressive, loud, very wasteful, and somewhat deadly. Accuracy is almost always fatal.
Thermal imaging, GPS, and communication has progressed significantly in the last 40 years.

Pud, go to Daily Kos
read it, and follow some of the links the bloggers give out. It would put chills down your spine.
Another problem with that whole approach of violent confrontation is that you don't consider the huge numbers of folks who are armed, very dangerous and care NOTHING about either politics or civil order.
Part of my fears about the nation center around a future with a whole generation of economically challenged younger folks, with little moral compass and a whole lot of anger. Guess what? They probably aren't going to be embracing capitalistic values and they sure as hell might be willing to get violent.
You see, Pud, guys like you and I might differ about politics(to put it mildly), but we have something to lose.
A lot to lose, actually. Mix in tens of millions with NOTHING to lose and this shit could get nasty.

Wullie: The government has shit that could fucking evaporate you. I have quite a few old college buddies that work on this sort of shit, and of couse, they never, ever give details. But, I know for a fact what their expertise is, and we're talking microwave, laser, radiation and serious electronic technology. There is a reason our defense budget makes up 52% of the total spent by the government. M-16? Get fucking real, you live in a nation that has the means to kill or subdue you from several timezones away.

Oh yeah....that shit is so lethal....that we would only use it on our citizens....not in places like Afghanistan or Iraq and certainly not against Iran or N.Korea.....yeah, right....and just who is gonna give the order and who is gonna push the button? Silly Shit.

no we wouldn't. That shit is kept for when we really need it, not to make public. Actually, to run with your list, I have a feeling that if NK got all nuclear and stuff, and had to be subdued, you might see some shit trotted out that would surprise you. Who will give the order? Any leader, or group of same that feels threatened by impending chaos. And, if chaos does erupt, a whole host of folks could 'push those buttons'.
It never fails to crack me up when right-wingers get all ballsy and shit. Hell, most street gangs could take you losers out, fast. We won't even go into the topic of Italian, Russian or Chinese organizations. You all woudn't last a minute. Then, you want to talk tough about the government and vast numbers of your fellow citizens? How freaking patriotic.........ummm, scratch that word and change 'patriotic' to 'pathetic'

Keep thinkin up reasons why it won't work. Then you and your pacifist buddies will be all that's left for the gang bangers and the other bad types to play with. ROTF!!
