I pay 33% federal tax on every pay cheque I get. And you know what ... I don't mind one little bit. I'm glad to give it up.
I live in a great country, and if I have to pay a little extra tax to help insure that EVERY Canadian citizen can receive health care regardless of how much money they have in the bank ... I'll do it willingly.

Responsible countries take care of their citizens. And countries that don't, can't call themselves advanced societies.

well put, and the pathetic part, Res, is that increasing our taxation and making Medicare cradle to grave would save 95% of the citizenry money over what they are currently spending. It would free businesses from trying to guess at future healthcare costs, simplifiy paperwork for medical professionals and as every example shows, substantially raise the overall performance of healthcare in the US. However, at election time,try mentioning Socialized Medicine and watch the loony right whip it into a twisted horror show.

I'm aware. I am paying it, because I can afford it, and it leaves me with little, if any, financial exposure. You see, Nic, in the US, if you DON'T take my approach, and have money, the medical system can drain ENORMOUS amounts.
Note that a less generous policy, with higher co-pays and greater out-of-pocket costs is about 1/4 the cost of mine(and, as a late middle aged person, I am the most expensive class on the rate scale), and any couple earning less than around $65,000 get some tax breaks to lower that cost.
Still, the way your nation, Nic, runs things, would be nice for the US to emulate.
