I'd disagree.....we have loose cannons pop up all the time. Yes, corporate sponsorship in car racing and some other sports(soccer, esp)has gotten heavy-handed, but even there(as you note), you get the free-spirited soul speaking his/her mind. From golf to baseball, I can think of a ton of radical or even outrageous commentary in just the past 3 or 4 years.
