Can't you go a week without a mass shooting?

seldom. Because, the second amendment apparently gives militia status to every nut with a gun.

appalling. sickening. and nothing will happen. nothing will be done. i'm a gun owner and a member of the nra but it's clear to me that something has to be done about these assault rifles. they need to be completely banned. they're not for hunting or home defense. they're for killing. 13 school shootings in 2018 already and it's only the middle of february. it's appalling that this keeps happening and we do nothing about it. we need real politicians who have a backbone to stand up to the gun lobby.

you can start by turning in your NRA membership. They've done nothing but shill, partly with your membership money, for unsafe laws around transfer, regulation, oversight, and have been cheerleaders for more guns every time a tragedy happens. Maybe if enough sane, good hearted gun owners tell that terrorist lobby to go fuck themselves, we might, as a nation be able to proceed. Marco Rubio, quickly jumping up with 'let's not jump to conclusions' should disgust every constituent in his home state. The NRA has given that pandering weasel over 3 Million dollars, and see what they've bought?

And right on cue all the Republican talking heads have begun going on about how it's not about the guns ... it's about mental health issues. It's not the guns. We don't have to restrict guns, we need to address mental health issues.

Except of course, there's this ......

we've had 18 gun related incidents in schools this year alone. And, on a related note, this one is yet another white nationalist with a gun. Whee! Let's build a wall and vet the Muslims to keep America safe, right?

you don't throw the baby out with the bath water. the nra likes to buy politicians, that's true. but the politicians are allowed to say no thanks. there's nothing forcing them to take nra money. liberal democrats manage to get elected without nra money so why can't a republican? if more politicians started saying no thanks to nra money it would be a giant first step to fixing the gun problem in america. if politicians were free to vote their conscience there would be a ban on assault rifles in a week.
and the nra isn't an evil empire. they do some good things with their money as well. training, education, and the like. i don't like that the nra buys politicians any more than you do. but for now the card stays in my wallet. for now. big oil buys politicians all the time, are you going to stop buying gas?

the NRA might well be a Russian money funnel, when this election business is all sorted out. As for throwing the baby out with the bath water, I would argue that the bad at this point far outweighs the good, the bought politicians are pure evil, and it takes a purchaser to make that evil happen. Certainly, the teaching and other positive outreach can be handled by sportsmans clubs, without demanding gutted background checks, underfunded enforcement of firearms, blockage of any sensible legislation and a near-constant demand for universal concealed carry, perhaps the dumbest, most dangerous notion I could think of for a civilized society(fuck, even places like Tombstone and Dodge City demanded guns be left at the city office upon arrival).
