I like what I see in BOS.
I particularly like the panel in cockpit....it's remarkable.
View from the cockpit, external, outstanding.
I have absolutely despised IL2 when flying in cockpit, despite using a TrackIr 4 Pro the last 5 years.
The views were never realistic and the cockpit panel for crap. imho.
No reason to believe that the rest of BOS won't be done as well as the visuals.

Re: Downloading Premium edition of IL2: Battle of Stalingrad
BTW yesterday during track review (they put it in game this friday) in external view I noticed how my shell is making bang sound on LaGG wing.
Jawdropping effect. Along with others.

Re: Downloading Premium edition of IL2: Battle of Stalingrad
Any further thoughts on this? I've had the "Premium Edition" from the first day, and can't get into it for more than a few minutes... the game has some spectacular features; the visuals and animations are awesome. Ground handling of aircraft on takeoff is the best of any sim... flight handling: all the physics and effects seem to be there, but on the whole the aircraft are barely flyable scheissbock IMO. As much discussion and effort that's going on in other areas of the sim, this seems to be neglected.
That said, anyone play War Thunder? Been doing a lot of that this week. Seems like a big, very competent team is building it, taking the core of IL2 flight physics and building a new game around it. The visuals look a coupla generations better than IL2 1946, with fantastic results, the FMs are similar but more refined, views out of cockpit are excellent and believable, the entire thing is much much more refined. And there a three levels of gameplay to provide all levels of experience some action. Arcade is a much better entry level flight experience than say, MS Flight. Real Battles is very similar to what most servers provided for Il2, and Simulator mode is really excellent.
The missions are very repetitive and 'gamey' relative to other sims, and planesets are divided by class and country, so you get some odd mixed allied and axis types on each side that are not theater correct for most missions (Spit 9s and Bearcats in Battle for Berlin??). FMB is in the future, and no idea about coop or how squads work within the game yet, but likely.
It's not a complete project, seems on infinite beta with payware aircraft upgrades optional, but shows far more promise than anything out there now IMO.

When ready for full rel.version game will boast several most important aircraft and of course many other things.
The single thing that bothers me, albeit quite severely, is inability to spot aircraft without icons.
Try it for yourself... some folks say there is no prob with that but I think majority would agree that this without icons will be deaf and blind playing catch in blinding snowy environment... both IL-2 1946 and Rise of Flight have quite better objects visibility.

Aircraft are somewhat tougher to handle than in Il-2, not by big margin so that's not really an issue.
I'm quite satisfied with most other things in game.

Re: Downloading Premium edition of IL2: Battle of Stalingrad
I've played mostly with icons, and a few games in Simulation mode without. Aircraft in sim mode are not too difficult to find, as the 'dots' are against the sky or moving fast relative to ground, but ground vehicles are extremely difficult to identify. They don't move fast enough or make enough dust to catch your eye, unless you are very close....
It would be nice to add simulated guidance to ground targets, like an "ALO" or "FAC" with radio advice once you are in range of targets and ground radio reception in certain areas. Or more specific better prebrief info on enemy activity, contact reports in real time over radio, or radar contact info for flying targets. The current mission goals are a bit unspecific... like "don't let attackers take town such and such....".. then off you go on your own...

Just to make clear, I referred to Il-2 BoS only.
I haven't played WarThunder.

Ah yes, sorry. I hope Jason's admittedly small team can really do as well with flight dynamics and visual range as they have with other aspects of the game... not confident about that unfortunately.

War Thunder is a pay-to-play game, is it not?
Re: Downloading Premium edition of IL2: Battle of Stalingrad
Nah it's free for the most part... if you want to advance up a tech tree faster, or get early access to some of the nicer aircraft, you can pay. I guess in that way it's like kind of like World of Tanks if you're familiar.
Re: Downloading Premium edition of IL2: Battle of Stalingrad
That's a pretty long thread in your link above....I saw that you jumped into it feet first.... No pun intended, but...I pretty much share your opinion/insight. It will be interesting to "see" what they come up with...if anything? I'm on a 2560x1440 @96hz monitor and this concerns me...a lot. Being nearly 60 years old, I don't mind giving up "natural reflex" to the younger crowd, hell, it's expected. I just don't like the idea of being blind folded/blind sided too.DKoor wrote:When ready for full rel.version game will boast several most important aircraft and of course many other things.

How's about weighing in some more R_D with yer opinion on the current visibility distance thingy..in yer experience?
Barfly..."War Thunder"? you game much with it?
