Enjoy the movies....and if the movie is any good? How about a heads up on the title....I just might hitch up the wagon and take Momma to town for a treat.

The easy questions to that are.....How many jobs do poor people create vs How many jobs the rich create? Everybody knows the answer to that.....
well, 'everybody' thinks they do. However, it's one of the great fallacies sold to the Rubes. In our modern
domestic economy, investment doesn't necessarily create jobs.....here. What drives domestic employment
is consumption, and rich and poor consume. Further, it's been shown that giving the rich tax breaks does
NOT increase the amount of consumption, thus does NOT create jobs.
Why aren't the rich investing in "growth industries" that would potentially employ more folks?
who says they aren't? And, who says most of the jobs won't be sent elsewhere after start-up? The plain old truth is that the two most recent large scale economic booms were created as a result of initial investments by the Federal government in infrastructure and space exploraration. In the past 20 years, the government has done essentially NOTHING that would encourage any new industry, and at the same time, deregulation and tax breaks on investment income have skewed the economy to favor investment income over that created by work. The trends are obvious, and the result becoming ever more so.

Oh, and the movie? We saw 'the Town', by Ben Affleck. It was very good.

Suppose you're president. (Yes, YOU, generic smartguy)

The country needs more jobs. And more jobs with a decent net income.

What do you do?

Callmesick, I have to thank you for the help we Republicans in the great state of NH
needed. Your foolish dribble and rabid defense of all things communist has turned
more than a few heads here at my gatherings.
I print out some of your finest defecation, carefuly match it with the best replies
from the most intelligent people here, and even my socialist friends from Mass
have remarked that they will never vote for a Democrat again.

Callmesick, I bet you have cost the party a dozen votes
amongst my friends, and most of them regret voting for Obama.
I bet with all the exposure you get here, you have cost the Democrats hundreds
of votes.
Rave on Callmesick. The Pelosiites are getting their asses handed to them, and you
are HELPING!

Well, Slick...since everybody else's business is your business.. ;) .....Are you investing like others for the quick buck now? Or, are you investing in areas that will promote jobs and prosperity for all in the future?

I'll weigh in:
1. Let the public know that this isn't going to fast, or cheap
2. Create a MASSIVE infrastructure upgrade project for the nation- roads, communications, power grid
rail and water lines.
3. Encourage via grants a couple key areas of research--efficient electrical energy production and
something cutting edge in biological fields. Demand that grant recipients be US based for research
and manufacture(if industries) and underwrite graduate-level studies(as was done until 1982).
4. Create incentives for kids to progress through educational process. Right now, there are none, beyond
a nebulous pot of gold at the end, you need something nearer-term and tangible.
5. Hope like hell that I get re-elected on this long-term plan, or that like minded types do. Going hot and
cold over politics and directions for the economy over a few decades is a recipe for disaster.

not my gameplan, but I do see some investments that focus on short term profits. Personally, a lot of that sort of stuff scares me. My investment strategy is VERY conservative, focused far more on preservation of capital than on statospheric returns. Thus, I didn't get burned too badly in the crash, have made real good money cherry picking investments that got over-sold, and most of my portfolio is in proven, long-term profitable companies.
Or, are you investing in areas that will promote jobs and prosperity for all in the future?
I'd like to think both. For instance, I hold bank stocks in pretty conservative banks(low job growth), but also invest in an energy growth fund(which promotes alternative technologies). I also give money to two colleges, which I view as an investment in jobs and prosperity, as well.

Fair enough answer..... :) What do you think would happen to the stock market, economy if mandatory pension contributions/401 K were to stop being invested as they have traditionally been and were (example) invested say, in real estate? instead of the stock market, Bonds etc...? Serious question here, no chicanery involved....
